Thank you for posting this. I am not a Christian but I can surely feel the passion, beauty, talent and artistry of Mahalia Jackson. She was amazing, I get the chills. This recording in particular, just moves me incredibly.

both of my parents are from the south..more specifically MS. by the time the civil rights movement was in full swing they were "grown" and had migrated to the north to Chicago as many blacks did back then. i ask them often how they made it then...and they answer. i believe on spirit and faith is how they made it. and mahalia put those things and others in beautiful words into sentences making a most soulful song. thank you for posting this.

You know she chose gospel over jazz, she would have been the next Ella Fitzgerald. I'm glad she stayed true, plus I love me some Ella. This is, to me, one of the best gospel songs ever. Christian or Not, how can you not feel that? Woman can sing. Man, she can sing.
